Chinese Dragon

Description

My son first saw a picture of a Chinese dragon when his class was studying cultures around the world. After that there was no other Halloween costume would do.

Materials

paper mache glue
newspaper
yarn
sequins
2 medium stryofoam balls
1 small styrofoam ball
paint
wire
cardboard
large cereal box
large balloon

Instructions

  • Cover large balloon with several layers of paper mache and make sure to let each layer dry before applying the next one.

  • Cut cereal box in half and cut teeth into each side. Glue to paper mache head as a snout. Cut a hole between two boxes for the wearer to see out of. Cut hole in the bottom of the head.

  • Cut 2 medium stryofoam balls in half and glue two of the halves on the head as eyes. Glue another half to the snout as a nose. Cut the small stryofoam ball in half and glue a half to each side of the nose.

  • Spray paint the entire head red. Paint eyes on the styrofoam balls and nostrils on the nose. Paint teeth white. Wrap 2 lengths of wire with yarn and insert into the sides of the nose as whiskers.

  • Cut wing shapes out of cardboard and glue on the head as eyebrows and ears. Decorate with paint and sequins.

  • Hot glue yarn to the head as a mane.

    Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
