Description

My daughter wanted to be a food item for Halloween so she chose to be a box of popcorn.

Materials

1 - 18" x 18" square pop up hamper
3 yards white fabric
Elastic
Red Acrylic paint
Masking tape
Hot glue gun
Hot glue

Instructions

  • Open pop up hamper and turn upside down. Take scissors and make an x cut in the fabric for the head. Slide the hamper over child's head to determine where to cut holes for the arms.
Measure fabric and cut it to the length of the hamper (actually just slightly longer to allow for hemming top and bottom). Hem top and bottom edges of fabric. Cut fabric into two halves. Wrap tightly around the square hamper for sizing and then sew together making seams on the sides. Leave an opening in the seams on the sides for arm holes.
After sewing is complete, lay the costume flat and mask of 1/2" lines every 2". Paint on lettering and burst first then fill the lines that were masked with paint. Slide popcorn box shell over hamper and then add popcorn to the top. Popcorn was made with approx. 12" x 12" pieces of fabric. Stuffing was put in the center and then the sides pulled up and tied off leaving excess fabric for the ruffle-like edge of the popcorn. Hot glue the popcorn pieces onto the top of the box. Hood was made with a piece of white fabric with elastic around the face.

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
