Beware Global Warming!

Description

My 9-year-old son is very interested in helping the environment and got the idea that he wanted to be Global Warming for Halloween, because it was the "scariest thing he could think of"! We used the pattern for a pumpkin costume to make the globe and then cut the continents out of green felt and the polar ice caps out of white felt (using outlines we downloaded off the Internet). My son came up with the idea of adding small signs all over the globe that described the effects of global warming, as well as a thermometer to show the world's temperature going up. We found a great ski hat and gloves with flame designs and also painted flames on his face. His Halloween slogan was "Trick or Treat-Beware the Heat!"

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
