Description
Our tiny little public school (47 students in high school) won the Class A state championship in 2007 and basketball mania has been reigning ever since. Our 5 year old son, who loves the sport, wanted to be a basketball hoop, not a player, but a hoop. I decided to get a little creative with that and ended up with a fun costume. He had a little trouble going through doors, but it was worth the fun. He even wore the costume to a pep rally for the team!
Materials
Basketball head, poster board, paint sticks, small plastic hoop and net, duct tape, utility knife, paint
Instructions
I took a large sheet of foam poster board and cut a small hole in the bottom of the board to attach a plastic basketball hoop and net to. I then duct taped the hoop in place on the back. I attached paint sticks with duct tape to the back of the board to stabilize it behid my son's back. I painted the black square on the front of the poster board to make it look more realistic. On the back of the posterboard, I painted "Panther Hoop" (our school mascot) I dressed my son in orange wind pants and our school colors basketball sweatshirt. He wore a basketball head on his head to complete the costume. He then put his head through the hoop and rested the posterboard on his shoulders. Very easy to make.
Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
